Our Story

The #NotYourPorn Campaign was started by Kate Isaacs in May 2019 after one of her close friends had her iCloud account hacked. Videos of her and an ex had been stolen and were uploaded to Pornhub. Kate realised, in trying to get the content removed, that there was no regulation in place to hold companies like Pornhub to account for hosting non consensual content. Weeks afterwards the video was taken down, but the damage was already done - the video was downloaded millions of times. Elena joined the Campaign in August of the same year, and Kate and Elena have been building the #NotYourPorn movement ever since.

Our vision

#NotYourPorn dreams of a future where:

  • The instances and forms of image-based sexual abuse (“IBSA”) are curtailed;

  • The porn industry and online platforms are no longer allowed to facilitate IBSA and profit from the exploitation of non-consenting adults, under 18s and sex workers;

  • Law and policy adequately protect non-consenting adults, sex workers and under 18s from IBSA and are able to quickly adapt to the forms of harm rapidly evolving online;

  • Society understands what IBSA entails, that IBSA is abuse and that no one is entitled to access non-consensual content;

  • All survivors (non-consenting adults, sex workers and under 18s) are treated with respect, have equal opportunity to achieve justice and to design the law and policy to best serve them, and are able to heal; and

  • Online porn, social media, communications and dating platforms are created with safety at the heart of their design.

 Our mission

We are fighting to:

  • Ensure comprehensive, survivor-informed, sex positive and consent-based policy in regard to and regulation of the porn industry and all online platforms to protect non-consenting adults, under 18s and sex workers from harm;

  • Influence the creation of an effective multi-layered system of protections for survivors to minimise the likelihood and frequency of IBSA;

  • Raise awareness of all forms of IBSA at local, national and international levels with a range of stakeholders (for example, police forces, judges, medical professionals, the general public, schools, members of government, parliamentarians, industry and international organisations/networks);

  • To build, empower and support a community of survivors to be an active part of the law and policy reform process, safely bridging the gap between policy/law makers and survivors;

  • Act as a triage for survivors and direct them to the appropriate support services, as well as providing peer support; and

  • Work with industry to ensure safety by design on all social media, communications, dating and porn platforms.
