Peer-to-peer support

#NotYourPorn has learnt how crucial it is for image-based abuse survivors’ healing to have support from people who understand their experiences. For this reason, we started our peer-to-peer support service.

What is peer-to-peer support?

#NotYourPorn provides informal calls normally via the phone but sometimes on video call to adult survivors of image-based abuse.

Peer-to-peer support is defined as a mutual relationship where #NotYourPorn team members with the contextual knowledge and understanding of image-based abuse offer a safe space for a survivor to express themselves and receive emotional support. It is not a therapeutic relationship, instead it is about having someone who understands to talk to and a place you can always go to be heard.

Peer-to-peer support does not offer practical advice, advocacy or information, this is what our practical support service does. Sometimes there may be overlap, please see more information on how this is managed below.

Is peer-to-peer support for those in crisis?

Crisis is typically defined as a sudden and overwhelming event, such as experiencing image-based abuse for the first time. Our peer-to-peer support is not appropriate for those in crisis as therapeutic or clinical intervention is a better form of support. If you are experiencing crisis, we are happy to try to find you access to mental health support if you email us at support@notyourporn.com.
